Braces

Join the braces revolution. Comfortable, traditional, and suave – if you want some, get in the queue. Ours are crafted in England using boiled wool (boxcloth) or canvas webbing and leather. Choose a subtle shade to blend in with your ensemble, or a radical colour to make a big braces statement. Boxcloth braces date back to the early 19th century, when they were modelled on French suspenders and fashioned from super-strong Yorkshire boiled wool. (If you’re a purist, you’ll be pleased to know that the boxcloth braces on these pages are almost identical to the originals; the Y-shape back was designed in 1850.) Wearing your new boxcloth braces might start a few conversations. Are they relevant or fashionable? Both, in the right circumstances. “It is from the shoulders that all garments should be hung,” said Oscar Wilde, and “No gentleman should wear a belt,” according to old-school tailoring wisdom. Belt-haters will be delighted with the latest developments. Daniel Craig wore a white pair in Casino Royale, and caused a country-wide shortage. Braces are back. Our range is broad and reliably good. The 2-in-1 braces feature clips for easy attachment; the Boxcloth versions will arrive with buttons to stitch on to your trousers. Either version is perfect to give your ensemble a vivid exclamation mark.
