Harvie & Hudson’s long heritage on Jermyn Street - “a premium and luxury brand from 1949” - outfitted The Beaumont Hotel, a five-star boutique hotel in Mayfair. The Beaumont’s own brand emphasises an “old-world aesthetic and values”, and Harvie & Hudson’s bespoke uniform service would extend that Art Deco elegance to every staff member. In the luxury hospitality sector, uniforms are now seen as part of a hotel’s identity, so every design choice (fabric, cut, and logo placement) was made to reinforce The Beaumont’s prestigious brand.
To meet The Beaumont’s requirements, Harvie & Hudson designed a full range of garments for hotel staff.

Key pieces included:
- Men’s three-piece suits: single-breasted, two-button jackets with matching waistcoats and trousers.
- Men’s formal wear: tailcoats/morning coats and classic Crombie-style overcoats.
- Ladies’ three-piece suits: tailored single-breasted jackets, waistcoats, and skirts or trousers.
- Accessories: pure-silk ties and pocket squares with hotel branding, and branded Panama hats for doormen.
- Special pieces: double-breasted white bartender jackets for bar staff, and elegant scarves/neckerchiefs for women’s uniforms.
These uniforms were intended for daily wear by concierges, doormen, front-of-house personnel, bar and restaurant staff, bellhops, and more. The goal was “combining style, comfort, and formality” to ensure staff looked sharp yet could move freely during long shifts. In practice, that meant careful tailoring details: for example, women’s jackets have single vents and skirts were cut just below the knee, while men’s jackets have double vents for greater mobility. All garments were made to measure, with on-site fittings arranged at different times to accommodate every employee’s schedule.

Fabric and construction were critical. Harvie & Hudson sourced pure wool suiting cloths - the same premium materials found in their luxury ready-to-wear lines —so that the uniforms would stand up to frequent dry-cleaning and feel comfortable. The Beaumont’s branding team selected lining fabrics and designs, and high-quality buttons were used for durability. Every piece carries subtle branded touches (monogrammed threads or woven labels) to tie it to the hotel’s identity. In fact, a well-designed uniform is “a walking advertisement” for the brand, and Harvie & Hudson made sure each seam, texture and hue fit The Beaumont’s visual identity.
The design process was highly collaborative. The Beaumont’s branding consultants provided the initial brief and inspiration, emphasising the hotel’s Art Deco style. Harvie & Hudson then held workshops with senior staff from each department to discuss needs and pain-points in their old uniforms. Samples of fabrics, linings and styles were presented in person, and adjustments were made based on feedback. The in-house design team at Harvie & Hudson worked closely with manufacturers, specifying quantities and bespoke requirements for each item. This thorough consultation – from logo placement to budget alignment – ensured the final designs matched both the hotel’s image and practical requirements.
Managing this project had its challenges. Integrating woven branding into fabrics required careful scheduling, and coordinating multiple tailors (for suits, accessories, and alterations) meant logistics were complex. Harvie & Hudson applied proactive project management to meet the deadline: all 600+ uniform pieces were completed in just 12 weeks from production start to delivery. Staff arrived on time each morning to find their new outfits waiting: the Harvie & Hudson team had organised every set into personalised garment bags. Onsite trial fittings allowed final adjustments by tailors, so each colleague’s uniform fit perfectly out of the bag. Staff feedback has been very positive. Employees from concierge to waiters have commented on how comfortable and polished they feel in the new uniforms, and managers note the cohesive, professional look reinforces the hotel’s luxury standards. Aftercare support was built into the service: if any issues arise, Harvie & Hudson’s tailors are on hand for further alterations or repairs.

The Beaumont project exemplifies why customers trust Harvie & Hudson for bespoke solutions: with a 75- year legacy of “exceptional service, timeless quality, and exclusive… garments”, the firm has become synonymous with British tailoring excellence. Over those decades, Harvie & Hudson have proven that quality never wavers – “letting it slip would be a mistake, so we make it a priority to maintain high standards”. For The Beaumont, this meant receiving a uniform collection that matches the hotel’s prestigious image and will endure for years to come.
