Thomas George Harvie and George Frederick Hudson set up in business as purveyors of London's finest quality shirts and gentleman's accessories three generations ago.
The expertise and the excellence of their workmanship is maintained to this day by thier direct descendants.
We are the only remaining company still in sole ownership of the original families in the bespoke shirtmaking trade in Jermyn St, London.
Our first Premises opened in 1949 at 20 Duke Street and were part of the old Cavendish Hotel which, at the time, was owned by Rosa Lewis, 'The Duchess of Duke Street'
In 1964 we moved to 77 Jermyn Street and in 1965 we took on two larger stores at 96, 97 Jermyn St and in 1987 we started up at 55 Knightsbridge.
In the early days most of the shirts were made to measure. The majority had detachable stiff collars and neck band. In fact you can still buy the off the shelf version on this website.
The fabrics were usually white, cream, plain blue and bengal stripes.
In the late sixties however it all changed and the Harvie & Hudson bold stripe was born. A true innovation, very striking and always in our signature colours, bright pink, red, yellow, green and purple.
We still design exclusives today and luxurious vibrant colour ways. We are proud to have a history of exclusive quality shirt making for a long list of industrialists, politicians and of course many celebrities past and present.
Our bespoke department is still going strong and all these shirts are cut on the premises at 77 Jermyn St.
We have now opened a new store in Lime Street in the City Of London near the busy Leadenhall market area.
This shop is planned as an all round gentleman's haven. Not only will the customer be able to buy the finest clothing available, it will be possible to get a shoe shine, wet shave and haircut at our barbers service provided by the well known with Taylors Of Old Bond Street.
The Website that you are now visiting is also the third generation, the first of which was launched in 1999.
We hope you enjoy the experience. If you have any questions don't hestitate to ask.
Richard Harvie
